IRS Tax Problems

What is a IRS 4883C Letter?

What is a IRS 4883C Letter?

Few experiences are worse than hearing from the IRS. But not all IRS notifications are the same. If you receive an IRS letter 4883C, your tax rerun has been flagged for more information needed to confirm your identity. Basically, it is flagged as a suspicious return.

The first step is to call the IRS identity verification hotline at 1-800-830-5084. You will need to collect the following tax and personal information for the call:

  • A copy of the 4883C letter
  • A prior year tax return
  • A copy of the tax return in question
  • Any tax documents used in processing the tax rerun in question, Forms like W-2s, 1099s, etc.

After you have made contact with the IRS and verified your identity, your return will continue to be processed. Please note it will take approximately nine weeks to process after you have verified your identity with the IRS. Rampant identity fraud and new technology safeguards, make this inconvenience part of the anti-fraud effort.
